KIRAT YAKKHA CHHUMMA UK BBQ 2010

After much anticipation, the moment finally came on the 14th August – BBQ party organised by KIRAT YAKKHA CHHUMMA UK (KIYACHHU UK) in Dover Community Hall, Dover. The aim of this BBQ was to bring together all Yakkha families to improve sense of community amongst us whilst at the same time, maintaining the Yakkha traditions.

On the main day, families with their children assembled in the attractively decorated community hall at 1000 hrs (big thanks to Mr Sibachan and his team for putting so much effort into decorating the hall to create an appropriate atmosphere for the occasion.) The hall burst into life with the arrival of the families. They started chatting with each other whilst the children filled the entire hall with their childish shrieks. The ticket sale was going on in the background whilst the organisers were constantly trying their best not to spoil the event by making sure everything went smoothly. It was the first time I had been a part of such a tribal conglomeration and, quite rightly, I was very excited and looking forward to meeting new people and Yakkha community in UK. It was a moment that made me realize where I belong and who I am. I felt overwhelmingly proud of my tribe and its traditions.

Formal programme started at 1100 hrs and continued late into the evening. The main attraction of party was chief guest, Chairman of KIRAT YAKKHA CHHUMMA NEPAL (KIYACHHU NEPAL) Durgamani Dewan. It was an honour to have the Chairman of ‘KIYACHHU NEPAL’. Shortly after arrival of Chief Guest the General secretary Mr Om Dewan requested both chairmen, ‘KIYACHHU NEPAL’ Durgamani Dewan and Chairman of ‘KIYACHHU UK BRANCH’, Ripu Rai, to come on the stage. Chairman Ripu Rai welcomed Chairman Durgamani Dewan by presenting khata on behalf of Yakkha Community UK. Chairman of ‘KIYACHU Nepal’ Durgamani Dewan also congratulated newly appointed Committee members by presenting khata and wished them successful tenure and also delivered a short speech in which he highlighted our achievements and the challenges facing us both at present and in future. The newly appointed committee members are named hereunder:

  1. Mr Kham Bahadur Rai (Adviser)
  2. Mr Harilal Rai (Adviser)
  3. Mr Ram Bahadur Jimi (Vice Chairman)
  4. Mr Yam Kumar Rai (General Secretary)
  5. Mr Hom Bahadur Dewan (Secretary)
  6. Mr Ritesh Jimi (Assistance treasurer)
  7. Mr Suman Dewan (PR/Media)
  8. Mr Santaraj Pamphu (Cultural Secretary)
  9. Mr Tanka Linkha (Assistance cultural secretary)
  10. Mr Gobinda Limbukhim (Administrator)
  11. Mr Dhan Dewan (Area rep London/Middlesex)
  12. Mr Manoj Jimi (Area rep Grays/Colchester)
  13. Mr Prem Rai (Area rep Aldershot/Camberley)
  14. Mrs Basundhara Rai (Ladies co-ordinator)
  15. Mrs Rina Pamphu (Assistance ladies co-ordinator)
  16. Mrs Dhan Kumari Jimi (Assistance ladies co-ordinator)

Tipan tapan was served right after speech. Whilst the Tipan Tapan was being served, the cultural team brought on stage the energetic entertainment package they had prepared for the occasion. The package was delivered in two phases - phase one started immediately after Tipan tapan and phase two after our delicious BBQ. All the audience were delighted by their performance. In addition, there was TAMBOLA in place to the delight of all present. We all enjoyed everything the day had on offer. All participants were so hopeful to win prize but only two of them managed to win. Mrs Kalpana Dewan won ‘any line’ prize whilst Mr Sunil Dewan pocketed the prize for full house. We even managed to raise little bit fund for KIYACHHU UK through Tambola.

After food and cultural show, all the audience paced up towards the dance floor led by Chairman Mr. Ripu. It was obvious that everyone thoroughly enjoyed the dance. The event itself was a huge success and the credits are due to those played crucial part in putting everything together for the occasion. Last but not least, I’d like to take this opportunity to pass my sincere gratitude to organizers who organized such fantastic event.
